First off, thanks to all for the nice replies to my last post. I don't know how you may be alerted to when someone responds to your response, but I did try answer some of the questions.
Now for my thought dropping of the day: Look at you keyboard. Go ahead. Find the '@' symbol. You see where yours is? Above the '2'.
MINE is NOW where the " used to be. And my " is now above the '2'
WTF? Do you know how many emails I have tried to send this week that looked like this:
tomb"radiotiki.com
WHY? there is no good reason for the keyboards to be different. I actually expected other problems. Like the '£' would have to go somewhere. BUT they kept the '$' right where it normally goes. (for those morbidly curious, the '#' has been displaced.)
I can't type now. Fuck.
Also, they gave me a checkbook at my new bank. (HSBC) I am currently too embarassed to ask anyone how to make out a check, because it doesn't look like any I have EVER seen. I guess I will be late on my bills as I have to go the library to figure this one out.

Tom,
Sorry to hear of your woes. I just don't understand the "@" being moved, or actually you would type it @"@. That is really fucked up.
Hope it stays minor inconveniences and nothing too major. As far as the show goes, in my opinion, I would rather you get your life running smooth, then come back all cheerful.
Also, as far as the checks, hell, just call the U.S. embassy and ask, I'm sure that is a common question.
Takecare,
Snappy
Hey Tom,
I had to learn how to use a French keyboard when I studied there for a semester (I can type equally with both now...so don't despair).
To further complicate their keyboard, they have french accents directly above the numbers instead of !@#$%^&*()_+ etc...
Directly above these accents (on the same keys) are the aforementioned symbols. To access this third row of symbols they've added another key labeled "alt grat" that you push instead of shift.
I copied and pasted the @ symbol from internet for the first four months there.
Additionally letters are mixed around and the most frustrating french keyboard feature. . .
You have to press shift to type a period.
How fucked up is that?
When I was in Croatia and Slovenia last year, I found that the keyboards were largely workable, except the Y and Z keys were switched. I eventually just gave up and tzped like this, telling my familz to just deal with it because it was faster.
Tom,
At least you're not in Finland, my home sweet home, where we have three (!!!) additional alphabets. They're located on the "," and "." and "/" buttons. To actually get those symbols, you have to press "Shift." There are a couple of other differences, but I haven't been back home in three years, so I don't remember them anymore.
All the best, SoButThen
